MasterCard advert recreates Messi’s first flight to Barcelona

Anuncio de MasterCard | Messi

The MasterCard advert goes back in time to recreate the flight that brought Messi from Argentina to Barcelona.

It is not easy to find a slogan that defines you and marks your communication as a brand. There are few companies that achieve it and surely we will all be thinking of them. Slogans like “Just Do It” by Nike or “Impossible is Nothing” by Adidas have defined an entire generation and are still valid today.

Another brand that hit the nail on the head was MasterCard with “Priceless”. The financial services company appealed directly to the feelings that define what is priceless for you. And from there began a series of advertising campaigns until reaching the one they have presented today.

“What’s Priceless to You” is the question they ask Leo Messi and the common thread of the MasterCard advert. It has been made by the McCann agency and recreates Messi’s first flight to Barcelona.

The voiceover begins by talking about how the world has changed and asks Leo Messi a question: “What is priceless for you?” Then they show us a Messi as a child on a plane, full of doubts and fears, bound for his first trial with FC Barcelona.

At the end, Messi as a child meets his adult version in the tunnel where the campaign begins to exchange a few words: “As long as you do what you love, priceless things follow you everywhere”. The MasterCard advert is one of the brand’s initiatives ahead of the Champions League final to be held in Paris on May 28.

The boy who plays Messi has been digitally created for the occasion, and is shown in a “Behind the scenes.
