Oxfam advert celebrates 75 years selling second-hand clothes

Oxfam’s advert celebrates 75 years of selling second-hand clothes with a spectacular spot.

The NGO Oxfam has been fighting poverty since 1942 and currently reaches more than 90 countries. Originally founded at the University of Oxford, it is currently made up of 19 non-governmental organisations. In 1947 it opened its first second-hand clothing and objects store on Oxford Street and today has over 100,000 garments for sale.

Now, to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the initiative to sell second-hand clothes, they have carried out this spectacular advertising campaign.

“75 years of second hand style at Oxfam” is the title of Oxfam’s advert. It has been made by the UK agency Dentsu Creative, produced by Prettybird and directed by Lucrecia Taormina.

The story of the campaign introduces us to a girl who doesn’t know what to wear to a party. Tired of looking for options, it is not until someone suggests trying Oxfam clothes that she sees the light.

Next, a spectacular succession of scenes make the clothes change while she does not stop walking, showing all the available clothes. Among the clothes we find garments chosen by the Spanish stylist Celia Arias.

According to Rachael Huttly, Head of Retail Marketing at Oxfam: “Oxfam has been selling second-hand clothing for over seven decades, giving generations of British consumers the opportunity to shop sustainably over that time.”

Campaign creatives Will Wright and James Morgan commented: “It’s not often that the worlds of fashion and sustainability can come together, so we didn’t hesitate to jump at the opportunity Oxfam gave us in this regard.”
