Aldi’s Christmas advert is a tribute to Willy Wonka
Aldi’s Christmas advert once again stars Kevin the Parrot in a story reminiscent of Willy Wonka.
German supermarket Aldi’s Christmas campaigns often feature a carrot called “Kevin The Carrot.” Year after year, the intrepid protagonist lives numerous adventures with her inseparable friends. This year she will be no exception.
Thus, Aldi’s Christmas advert is a tribute to Roald Dahl’s iconic book Charlie: “The Chocolate Factory”. The brand is thus taking advantage of the premiere of “Wonka” in theaters where Timothée Chalamet will play Willy Wonka.
“Kevin and the Christmas Factory” is the title of the Aldi Christmas advert made by agency McCann UK. On this occasion, the most famous Christmas carrot will pay tribute to Willy Wonka.
The piece gives a twist to the entire imagination of the chocolate factory and transforms it into Christmas products from Aldi. Led by the chestnut “William Conker” and other funny creatures called Plumty-Dumptys we see a visit to the factory with Kevin and his friends.
Everyone behaves selfishly and gluttonously except Kevin, who stands out with a noble and cordial attitude. In the end, William Conker gives the key to Kevin with which he agrees to spread good fortune to the world.
According to Jemma Townsend Brand Marketing Director at Aldi: “It wouldn’t be Christmas without Kevin the Carrot on our televisions. We know our customers will love seeing him getting into the Christmas spirit for the eighth year running.”
